Water and mains electricity sitting in the same cabinet is a real hazard, so a leaking boiler needs isolating first and diagnosing second.
What to do straight away
Before anything else:
- Switch the boiler off at the programmer and at the fused spur.
- Shut off the water supply to the boiler if you can get to the isolation valve.
- Put something underneath to catch the drip and move anything valuable out of the way.
- Leave the casing alone, opening it up is Gas Safe engineer's work.
What the location of the leak suggests
A drip from the pipework beneath the boiler usually means a compression joint or pump seal has failed. Water coming from the base of the casing itself often points to a corroded heat exchanger or a leaking diverter valve. A steady trickle from outside the property is normally the pressure relief valve doing its job because system pressure has crept too high.

Some leaks are a quick seal or valve swap.
