A boiler that won't fire up isn't always a broken boiler. Often it's simply not being told to, or a safety lockout has been triggered.
Five checks worth making first
Go through these in order:
- Power: is the fused spur switched on and the display lit up?
- Gas: are other gas appliances working, and is the meter in credit?
- Pressure: does the gauge show at least 1 bar?
- Controls: is the thermostat calling for heat, and is the timer inside a scheduled period?
- Condensate: after a frost, check the outside condensate pipe for ice.
Fault codes
Write down any code shown on the display before you reset it. It tells the engineer whether they're dealing with ignition, a flame sensor, a fan, a gas valve or an overheat lockout, and often means the right part gets brought along on the first visit.
Don't keep hitting reset
More than two or three resets on a fault that keeps coming back risks doing further damage. If you'd rather hand it to someone qualified, we work right across Halesowen, Stourbridge, Dudley and the wider West Midlands, and we book urgent repairs in fast, usually next day.
