An annual service is the cheapest way to keep a boiler running safely, and it also keeps the manufacturer warranty valid.
The short answer
Every 12 months, carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer. Almost every manufacturer makes an annual service a condition of the warranty, and gaps in the service history can invalidate a claim years down the line.
What a proper service covers
A thorough service should include:
- A visual check of the appliance, flue and ventilation.
- Flue gas analysis and a combustion check.
- Checking gas pressure and flow rate.
- Cleaning key components and the condensate trap.
- Testing the safety devices and controls.
- A written record of the readings and any advisory notes.
